This hybrid position blends the joy of hands-on pet care with helpful office support work. You'll spend your days visiting furry (and feathered and scaly!) friends in their homes while also helping keep our business running smoothly behind the scenes.

JOB TITLE: Part-Time Pet Care & Office Support Position "Jack Russel of all Trades"
LOCATION: Abbotsford, BC
POSITION TYPE: Part-Time Employee (Starting at 8 - 12 hours/week)
SCHEDULE: Variable schedule, primarily weekday mornings and lunchtime | Pet visits between 8 AM – 2 PM
ADDITIONAL HOURS: Major holidays, long weekends, spring break, summer
ADDITIONAL SHIFTS DURING BUSY PERIODS: Weekday afternoons or evenings, weekends
STARTING PAY: $18.25/hour (includes drive time to client homes) plus mileage tracking and compensation at $0.73 per kilometer.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFO: You will need to drive a lot during your shift to different homes all over Abbotsford and Mission. Pet Visits are typically between 20 to 60 minutes each, so there will likely be several pet visits in a row to manage.

What You will Be Doing:
Professional Pet Care (The Fun Stuff!)
- Cat and creature sitting, dog sitting, and solo dog walking (on-leash, private walks around their neighbourhood) - we visit ALL pets in their own home between 7:30 am and 9:30 pm
- Pet visits can range from 20 to 60 minutes so lots of driving is needed during your shift
- Petsitting includes care of birds, fish, turtles, rabbits, and other unique creatures
- Feeding, fresh water, potty breaks
- Playtime, cuddles, and building genuine bonds with the pets you meet
- Sending messages and photo updates to pet parents (sometimes multiple times daily!)
- Light home care: watering plants, collecting mail/packages, tidying up after the pets, and ensuring homes are safe and secure
Office Support (The Business Stuff)
- Data entry
- Customer service including responding to email inquiries and messages
- Proofreading and editing documents and client communications
- Social media and website updates
- Assisting with marketing, networking, onboarding additional team members, community events
The Hours
Starting at approximately 8 hours/week (on average), but may increase to 15 to 20 hours depending on when the clients book with us. During slower periods, hours may be very limited—this role is ideal for someone seeking supplemental income, not in need of full-time employment.
Hours fluctuate seasonally—expect busier periods during:
- in and around major holidays & over long weekends
- Spring break
- Christmas season
- July & August (summer vacation rush!)
The Reality Check
This job is incredibly rewarding, but it comes with real responsibilities:
- Handling pet emergencies (sick, injured, or escaped pets)
- Health monitoring, medication administration (additional training provided)
- Cleaning up messes (yes, including vomit, diarrhea, and pee)
- Extra critical care for senior pets, palliative care
- Managing dogs of all sizes and temperaments—including larger, rambunctious, or reactive dogs
- Navigating unpredictable situations with patience, common sense, and professionalism
- Communicating compassionately with pet parents who may be anxious or emotional about leaving their beloved companions

- the orientation for our new employee will include at least 3 shadowing/ride-a-along shifts, training on dog and cat behaviour, learning our online software and app, pet first aid, and continual on-the-job training

Basic Requirements:
Have your own reliable vehicle and be comfortable with a lot of driving (this is essential—you'll be driving to homes across Abbotsford and Mission)
Consistent availability on weekday mornings and lunch time up to around 1 pm (particularly Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday)
Willingness to work additional hours during busy times including some holidays
Physically able to walk large dogs for up to an hour per client, handle active pets, and lots of stairs
Own a smart phone and have a decent data plan
Comfortable learning online software and using a mobile app for client communication
Ability to take good digital photos of pets to share with the clients
Be authorized to work in Canada and currently live in Abbotsford, BC

What to Expect
The Schedule
We cannot guarantee a minimum amount of hours per week as our schedule is based on client demand. However, we anticipate approximately 8 to 12 hours (or more) per week during our regular busy periods.
We require minimum availability to work to be at least 3 days per week, 2-5 hours per day including drive time
We need the extra help on weekdays, particularly on Monday/Wednesday/Thursday in the morning
The busiest pet visit window: Typically between 8 AM – 2 PM on weekdays
Additional shifts may be available during busier periods, including afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts and over busy long weekends and Stat holidays
During our busy seasons (holidays, spring break, and summer), and as the business grows, the hours may increase to 15 to 20 hours/week
The schedule will vary
The exact timing and which pets you visit will vary day-to-day and week-to-week based on client bookings
Some regular dog walking clients have a more predictable schedule, but variety is the norm!
Office support tasks can be done remotely from home, between pet visits via your mobile phone, or may include driving and on-site attendance for certain events. The need for the office support will vary monthly based on seasonal and operational needs.
Lots of driving is needed to visit the pets in their homes in the time frame the client has requested.

About the Company
Furryornot Petcare was launched in December of 2011. Our founder, Jennifer Skowronek, is a life long animal lover (and animal nerd) and strives to provide the best pet care possible for our community. She is a member of Pet Sitters International, a Certified Professional Pet Sitter, and a founding member of the Canadian Pet Care Professional network. Furryornot Petcare services include drop in cat and creature sitting, drop in dog sitting and private on-leash (solo) dog walks in Abbotsford and Mission BC. We care for ALL pets including cats, dogs, birds, lizards, frogs, turtles, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets, goats, llamas, and more! We take care of people's plants, water gardens in the summer, bring in mail, and packages.
